MINI ATVs-HOW YOUNG IS TOO YOUNG?
At what age should you consider buying your child a mini ATV? In most cases this depends both on your child’s level of maturity as well as your level of comfort as a parent. Usually a parent who is an experienced ATV rider will have no problem putting their young children on their first mini ATV as young as the age of four. But if you don’t ride one yourself, you may be more apprehensive about setting your four year old out on his or her first mini ATV ride.

There are low power 50cc mini ATVs that are made for younger children, and they come with great safety features on them because the manufacturers know what it takes to keep little ones as safe as possible, and to make parents more comfortable, too. But the safety features on any mini ATV will not replace proper safety training, which will have to come from you, the parent. You need to either know, or learn the proper way to handle mini ATVs and stay safe on them in order to teach your kids to do the same. Some studying up on your part may be necessary.
50cc mini ATVs come with safety features such as dual headlamps for better visibility, smaller handles so that little kids can grip them more easily, and larger brake pedals so they won’t have any trouble finding them. But if they do have trouble finding the brakes, or if they just turn on their famous selective hearing when you are yelling for them to stop, you also get a parental remote brake to do the job for them.
Your child should be big enough to comfortably fit on the mini ATV and reach both the handles and the brakes with ease. If your child is at a maturity level that takes directions well, has the ability to listen to what he or she is told, and has the ability to make decisions in the face of obstacles, like you would find on a mini ATV trail, then by all means let the child ride and have fun at almost any age!
